Frequently Asked Questions about the“6 in the SIX”

  • Why is Jean-Paul organizing and running this event?
JP is doing this to raise funds and awareness for those whose lives have been impacted by sexual violence. In a broader sense, the run is to symbolize that we are much more resilient than we believe, and that through support and community, we can achieve incredible things.

  • What are the dates of the event?
The “6 in the SIX” will take place on Friday Oct. 20, Saturday Oct. 21, and Sunday Oct. 22.

  • What will happen each day?
JP will be running the marathon course twice daily for three consecutive days. JP’s sixth marathon will coincide with the timing of the official Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Sunday Oct. 22.

  • What is the total distance JP will be running?
JP will be running 2 marathons a day (84.4 km) for three consecutive days for a total distance of 253.2 km.

  • How can I support JP and “JP’s Team” leading up to and during the “6 in the SIX”?
There are many ways you can help out… You can donate to one or both of our official charities “The Gatehouse” and “Little Warriors” by clicking on this link. All donations are tax deductible, and you will automatically be issued a tax receipt upon donation.

You can also help by sharing our information and posts among your community on your social medial channels.

And finally, we’d love to have you join JP on the course over the weekend of Oct. 20 to Oct. 22. You can run a few kilometers, bike beside JP, or even come out to the designated cheering and support areas along the course.

  • Okay, I’d like to join JP out on his run, so what do I do next?
First thing you need to do is to consult the “Schedule Charts” above and decide which day, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday you’d like to participate. Next, decide which of the two marathons you’d like to support on the given day. The first starts at 3 AM and the second starts at 8 AM.

Your next decision is to decide how many kilometers you’d like to run or cycle. Depending on what you decide, consult the “Schedule” above to determine at which point of the course (and the appropriate time) you will be joining JP on his run.

  • What pace will JP be running?
JP will do the first marathon at a pace of 6:20/km and the second marathon each day will be at 6:30/km. Please be aware that this pace is calculated on total moving time, and will factor in hydration and nutrition breaks at the support vehicle along the course. The “Schedule” is somewhat flexible (with the exception of Marathon #5), so be prepared for minor variations at the designated checkpoints/intersections. Live progress updates will be posted on Twitter @runjprun.

  • What will I need to bring on the morning of the run?
Dress appropriately for the weather, and bring along any nutrition and hydration you might need along the way. In previous years, some individuals ran part of the course with JP, and then hopped on a BIXI bike to complete the rest of the marathon. Therefore, it’s a good idea to have a credit card with you in case you decide to do this. We will have a support vehicle along the course for the first marathon only each day. Space is limited in the vehicle; so if you plan on hopping into the van, please let us know ahead of time. And finally, if you have a headlamp, you might want to bring that along for the early marathons only… but if you don’t, no worries… You’ll be fine without one.

  • Should I bring JP snacks?
Well… that’s a good question! Snacks are always appreciated, but please remember that space is limited and that we’ll need to carry them the entire run (unless the support vehicle is still with us). Also, please be aware that JP will be monitoring his nutrition carefully over the course of the weekend, so he probably won’t be diving into the treats until Sunday afternoon. And head’s up… he’s now off gluten… I know what you’re thinking… This guy is totally “high maintenance”… All the more reason to make sure you give Mary-Anne an extra hug!

  • How do I contact JP for more details or updates?
You can contact JP via email at runjprun@gmail.com or on Twitter @runjprun or via FB Messenger “Jean-Paul Bedard”.
